I hate social media with a passion. I'm glad that it's banned for everyone under the age of 16 in Australia. The way it's destroying people's attention spans is appalling; most people can't even watch a whole YouTube video from start to finish anymore. The thing that I really despise about it are the trends. They're not only stupid, but they make people dumber. There are delusional people at my school who think they'll get good grades, but instead of studying for exams, they're too focussed on watching other people's rubbish on Snapchat. Instead of completing their assignments, they're too worried about posting on their Instagram stories. Instead of sleeping, they spend half their night scrolling through TikTok. Instead of actually interacting socially, they're too busy arguing with morons on Twitter.
I'm so glad that I was never enticed by social media, because I look at it now and I'm happy that I don't use it. I had Instagram for 2 weeks because someone kept pressuring me to get it, but I deleted my account. The extent to which you're connected to others you know just isn't for me. I enjoy being connected to my friends outside of real life through texting and stuff to that degree. But seeing what people that I know but I'm close with do with their personal life is such a bizarre concept to me.
And don't even get me started on the people who say YouTube is social media. Social media includes apps that are made to connect primarily with others that you know. YouTube does not fit that description. The only social aspects are Community Posts and Comments, and often those are not directed to people you know.
